RESULTS OF THE SUPPORT ACT SEARCH
The Band and I have finally made our decision about who will be opening for us at our X-mas shows. We had over 100 local artists and unsigned bands from the Guildford/Woking and Poole areas submit material for the opportunity to open for the SAS Band. The competition was tough and we'd like to thank all the artists and bands who put themselves forward for consideration. We've discovered there are a lot of very talented artists and musicians in the South of England!

NIGHTLIGHT - The Brook, 16th Dec, On Stage: 7.50pm
Nightlight are a 5 piece alternative, indie pop band from Guildford, Surrey. Singer Sophie Hewson and guitarist Richard Hawkins will be performing an acoustic set for their debut appearance at The Brook. Drawing on influences from bands like Eisley, Lydia and Brand New to Coldplay and Paramore, they formed towards the end of 2008, when Richard met Sofie at The Academy of Contemporary Music and they began writing together. A few months later Ben Arthey on bass, Robert Austen on drums and Ollie Collins on guitar joined them, forming Nightlight. They have just finished recording a new 4 track EP with producer Jake Gosling at Sticky Studios in Windlesham, Surrey. www.myspace.com/nightlightuk, www.nightlight-nightlightband.blogspot.com

THE GOODFOOT - The Lighthouse, 17th Dec, On Stage: 7.30pm
The Goodfoot hail from the deep south delta of Dorset and is made up of five funk loving individuals, who have been cooking up some homegrown funk - a perfect blend of smooth vocals, bluesy guitar, dirty horns, funky bass and fat-back drums. The music leans towards the classic funk of bands such as the Average White Band and the Meters with a nod to current funk heroes Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, but it's not just about infectious rhythms and solid grooves... The Goodfoot play real songs about real things and craft their music around a strong a pop sensibility. Recent award winners in the Dorset Unsigned Music Awards, the band has opened for acts including JTQ and Connie Lush and has featured on BBC Southern Counties Radio and BBC 6Music. "I was blown away by The Goodfoot. Definitely putting the Fun back into Funk" - Live Wire. "The Goodfoot bring the funk with a capital F on their 6 track EP and if it doesn't get you dancing nothing will" - Bournemouth Echo

THE PRODUCERS - The Lighthouse, 17th Dec, On Stage: 8pm
Dave Saunders and Harry Skinner formed The Producers in 1990. They went on to be one the most popular blues outfits in the country at that time, winning the "Blues Band of the Year" award 4 times, releasing 7 CD albums, one of which "Ain't No Love In The World" was nominated for the "Best Blues Album" award. Many international tours followed, in addition to numerous festival headliners including Colne, Burnley, Stanley Blues, Templebar Dublin, Cork, Farnham and North Wales Blues Festival. Playing at the Alexis Korner Memorial Concert at Buxton Opera House they were spotted by Peter Green's management during Peter's first major gig and were asked to support the Fleetwood Mac guitar legend on his first national tour for 25 years. The Producers gave their last sell-out concert on New Years Eve 2001 after undertaking a 6 month farewell tour of the UK. In 2009 The Producers were reformed by original front-men Harry and Dave and have since been joined by Ray Drury on Hammond and piano and 'Biff' Smith on the sticks and percussion.

BOLDLY GOIN' NOWHERE - Bisley Pavilion, !8th Dec, On Stage: 7.20pm
Boldly Goin' Nowhere are a four piece rock band who came together in 2008. They quickly gained a reputation around the South as one of the most exciting, charismatic and powerful bands on the rock circuit. Within months they impressed Josh Macrae (Producer) so much so that he asked them if they would like to record their album at Roger Taylor of Queen's Studio. This EP is a taster of the album, which will be launched in January 2010. The music press are already predicting great things for Boldly Goin' Nowhere...

THE STANLEY BLACKS - Bisley Pavilion, 18th Dec, On Stage: 8pm
Named after a 1950s composer and hailing from Woking, Surrey, The Stanley Blacks draw on a wide range of influences, notably The Beatles, The Strokes and early Motown to create an exciting and original sound. Their string of guitar driven, catchy pop songs distance them from the vast majority of their contemporaries with inviting melodies, reinforced by exciting vocal harmonies and musicianship. The Band's members consist of Ashley Reed (vocals, guitar and the group's principal songwriter), Jon Marshall (guitar), James Turnbull (bass) and Matthew Emberson (drums). The Jam's, Rick Buckler was so impressed with the boys he asked them to support his band at one of his gigs and said "They are the best band to come out of Woking since The Jam. They're going to go a long way!" Says Gary Mulholland (The Guardian) - "They've managed to find their own sound, which is one of the hardest things for a young band to do."

FRASER - Bisley Pavilion, 19th Dec, On Stage: 7.30pm
Fraser is a London & Guilford based indie band, which started in early summer 2009 with the chance encounter between Fraser Gregory and Nick Winters. Winters, the drummer would only rehearse with Gregory as long as he could bring his mate, guitarist Stuart Davenport and bassist, Josh Bergson along. The chemistry was amazing, so "Fraser" was born! Before deciding to travel and perform across the US and Europe as a solo artist, Fraser Gregory founded and fronted the most popular indie band to ever emerge from Malta, The Beangrowers (Roughtrade), a band that are still growing strong nearly 15 years later. "Fraser" draws from the influences of The Godmachine, James, Don Mclean, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, Dylan, Violent Femmes, The Chillies, Sufjan Stevens, Iron and Wine, The Feelies, Jose Gonzales, Buena Vista Social Club, Mark Knofler, Foo Fighters, Air, Nikhil Banerjee, Nitin Sawhnee, Bach, George Ligeti, Miles Davis, Coltrane, Otis Redding and Radiohead and are currently signed to the new label Moodle Noodle Records and have their first UK Single release coming out in Jan 2010 called "Lay It On The Line".

BILLY IRVINE - Bisley Pavilion, 19th Dec, 8.10pm
Billy Irvine is a local musician from Woking, Surrey. His music can be heard in two ways depending on where you catch him. For his support spot at Bisley Pavilion, he will be performing solo with his trademark resonator guitars, foot stomp and didgeridoos, along with his vocals. If you see him with his band, it's with a three or four piece electric set-up. Billy uses his vocal along with his collection of instruments and rhythmic tools to create a raw, bluesy, yet imaginative and creative style. He supports his live solo set with his debut album 'Bare Bones', a fourteen track solo recording captured live in the studio to recreate his live performance as much as possible. Following the release of his album came an electric EP version of selected tracks from 'Bare Bones', due to popular demand.
